Short answer
The IELTS exam fee is set by the official organisation that runs the test, and it's revised from time to time, so always confirm the current amount on the page of the provider you'll book with. The exam fee is separate from the cost of preparation: preparation is what you pay for lessons before you sit the test.
Who sets the fee?
The exam fee is the official test provider's price. In Turkey, IELTS is run by the British Council and IDP, and you register directly with them. Because the fee is revised from time to time, the safest approach is to check the current figure on the provider's own page before you book.
What IDP listed on 10 October 2026
As of 10 October 2026, IDP's IELTS test-dates page for Turkey listed the fees below for tests taken on computer at a test centre. Each provider sets and publishes its own fees, and they change, so treat these figures as a dated snapshot and check the provider's page before you book. The British Council publishes its fees on its own Turkey website.
- IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training: TL 12,210
- IELTS for UKVI (Academic and General Training): TL 13,500
- IELTS Life Skills: TL 10,710
What affects the fee?
- Version: Academic and General Training may or may not cost the same — check the provider's list.
- Format: computer-delivered and paper-based tests can be priced differently.
- Test type: visa versions such as IELTS for UKVI and IELTS Life Skills are priced differently from standard IELTS.
- Extra services: an Enquiry on Results (a request to have your test re-marked), extra Test Report Forms sent to institutions and changing your test date are all charged separately.
- When you book: a late booking may carry an extra fee.
Exam fee vs preparation fee
The exam fee is a one-off payment to the test provider and covers your place in the test. The preparation fee is what you pay for lessons before the test, and it's paid to us. Neither replaces the other: you can sit the test without preparing, and you can prepare and then put the test off.
Our current prices for preparation are all on our pricing page, in US dollars. The group course is a 45-hour programme with no more than 6 students per class; private lessons last 90 minutes.
Planning your budget
When you work out your total budget, count the exam fee once, and the preparation cost according to how far you are from your target band. How many lesson hours you need depends on how many half bands you still have to gain and which skills the gap comes from — we work that out together on a free intro call.
If you think you may sit the test a second time, budget for paying the exam fee again. We don't guarantee a particular band score, so building your plan on a realistic pace is more useful than writing a resit into the budget from the start.
